LINKS www.myspace.com/destructionunit www.shatteredrecords.net/digitalleatherreleases.htm www.myspace.com/thecuttersmusic STORY DESTRUCTION UNIT - At the time “Come On Feel It” was recorded, the line-up consisted of Ryan Wong - vocals/drums/synths/bass, Alicja Trout -synths/vocals, Jay Reatard - guitars. It was among the last recording session Jay and Alicja from The Lost Sounds ever did together Ryan, however, as the sole originator has full plans of keeping Destruction Unit alive with his usual live line-up that features guitarist Steve Sleaze among other members of Tokyo Electron and Digital Leather. Demos of this song are floating around under the name "And The Fools Will Dance". Check out their debut full length on Empty Records titled Self Destruction Of A Man, dig deep for their out of print 7" records, and look out for a new album later in 2006 that should very likely include the single "Come On Feel It". BLANCHE DAVIDIAN - Jamie Monistat VII - vocals, Ozzy Osmond - bass/vocals, Mike Hawk - guitars/vocals, Nikki Seven - guitars, Hugh Jass - drums. "Petunia" originally appeared on the group’s debut album Attack of the Killer (2002) and is very different from their trademark style of hi-fi glitter-garage rawk. The song is inspired by the band members’ post-punk influences from their younger days, as is “A Genetalia Ballot” from the same album. Blanche Davidian have appeared on numerous compilations including AZPUNK Vol. 2 and Encyclopedia Arizonica (Carbon 14, issue #27) and are planning a follow up album in 2006. SEX FOR CIGARETTES - They represent all that their name implies; sex and addicting substances. “Boom Stomp Crash” comes from a series of demos recorded in 2005. The song is currently being re-recorded and will be included on their debut CD released later in 2006. A west coast tour will be planned shortly after. Vocalist/guitarist Scott Nelson is joined by Jason - guitars/keyboards, Jeff - bass, and Mason - drums. DIGITAL LEATHER - From the mind of primary singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Shawn Foree (formerly of Tucson's Dickless Torso). He is joined by Ryan Wong - drums, Steve Sleaze - guitars, Rusty Wong - Synths, Jason Puffer - bass. The Digital Leather discography includes a self titled full length on the King of the Monsters label in 2003, the “Simulator” 7" on Plastic Idol in 2005 (the b-side has a more primitive version of "Dance Til Dead"), a new full length LP Monologue on Shattered Records in 2006, and about a half dozen or more limited edition CD-R demos released between 2002 and 2005 bearing such names as Mutual Disdain For Fun, Mork Technologi, and Hot Body is Electric. Contaminated Records is also planning a CD later in 2006. Very few bands in Phoenix can claim such high quantity and quality of musical output. BILLY DRUID’S ATOMIC GOSPEL - Billy Druid’s Arizona connection stems from his brief residency in Tempe that occurred shortly after leaving his San Diego home and prior to relocating to Dover. His S.D. resume includes The Tori Cobras, Tit Wrench, Battalion of Saints, and many more. “Carpe Nocturne” is self-produced with Billy Druid performing all the instruments and vocals. The original demo version became a favorite on Vodka Tonic Radio in 2005 and the new version here brings it to a whole new level. Still battling with his self-diagnosed case of mental illness, The Atomic Gospel will soon rise with a full lineup ready to infiltrate the New Hampshire live music scene. THE CUTTERS – Digital Leather’s Shawn Foree teams up with vocalist Devon Morris (formally of The Ex-Lovers and Between The Lines). Shawn orchestrates the majority of the music while contributing some vocals. Devon occasionally performs some synths but is the primary singer of the duo. “Fuck Pain” is considered the band’s first U.S. single, although an alternate version will appear as a B-Side on their first 7” released by 4:2:2 Records in Denmark. Less than a year after their conception, Shawn and Devon are preparing to make The Cutters more than a project by recruiting new members and focusing on becoming a serious live and recorded band.

PRESS: Phoenix New Times: "The synthesizer-saturated "Come On Feel It," a previously unreleased track by Tempe-based disco punk band Destruction Unit, is followed by the "Beyond Exquisite Mix" of Blanche Davidian's "Petunia" (from its Attack of the Killer album). The remix, particularly impressive considering that BD's known as a straight-up punk band, renders "Petunia" a spacy, bouncy club cut fit for any darkwave dance floor, complete with the cheerleader chant ripped from Toni Basil's '80s hit "Mickey." Digital Leather's "Dance 'Til Dead (Fatal Seduction Version)" sounds like an early Alien Sex Fiend song, stripped of all frills except the relentless bass line, creepy keyboards, and hypnotic vocals. All of the mixes bring a fresh sound to some old songs, but there are also some fresh cuts here. Billy Druid (a former member of anti-pop bands Tit Wrench and Battalion of Saints) contributed a new song ("Carpe Nocturne") with his band Billy Druid's Atomic Gospel, as did Phoenix quartet Sex for Cigarettes, whose "Boom Stomp Crash" sounds like an early '80s electro-goth number (think Joy Division snorting poppers around a boom box). The final cut is The Cutters' "Fuck Pain," an industrial-dance foray similar to what Ministry did in its early days, à la With Sympathy. The only complaint we can make about this CD is that there aren't more tracks." ~ Niki D'Andrea, May 11 2006 http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/Issues/2006-05-11/music/homegrown2.html Terminal Boredom: "The heavy hitters: Destruction Unit, with an outtake from the LP with Jay and Alicja playing with Ryan on "Come On Feel It" which surfaced on demos as "And the Fools Will Dance". Absolutely killer, and supposedly to be featured on the second DU LP later this year. Digital Leather contribute a version of "Dance 'til Dead" (different from the 7" version) that originally appeared on the CD-R of the same title. Another great song. The Cutters (Shawn of Dig.Leather with a female counterpart) do the heavily Human League sounding "Fuck Pain", which might even be better than the DL cut. As far as unheard stuff, you get some pretty polished synth-rock from Blanche Davidian (who sound like they are ready for mainstream airplay)." ~ Rich Kroneiss Spring 2006 |
